Bloody Bloody Kendra and Tonya!

OMG you guys, we are totes only a few days away from the Minnesota premiere of BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON! That’s right, gird your loins, because on Halloween night, history gets all sexy-pants inside the Teatro Zuccone.

To keep you from screaming and fainting in anticipation, we’re  spending some serious blog time letting you get to know the cast and crew of the sexiest show about American History to ever hit Duluth. Next up, two bad-ass ladies with some serious pipes.

It’s Kendra Carlson and Tonya Porter!

1383748_10100713493891312_947647796_nWhy on earth did you audition for this show?

Well, technically I didn’t start off auditioning for the show… I was originally supposed to be the Stage Manager but after some conflicts popped up, we had wonky girl ensemble to guy ensemble numbers and Katy asked me to be in the show instead. Actually, the way I remember it — she BEGGED me to grace the Renegade stage once more and told me there was NO POSSIBLE WAY she would be able to do the show without my rock-star personality, sultry pipes, and killer dance moves. Yeah. I’m pretty sure that’s exactly how it went down.

Tell us one thing you learned about Andrew Jackson from this show.

Andrew Jackson was a total badass. He liked boozing, brawling, and he was a scary mofo. Jackson was reported to have been involved in between 13 to 100 duels. On one occasion, he challenged a man to a fight and Jackson was even kind enough to allow the man to take the first shot. Seriously — In a duel with pistols, Jackson politely volunteered to be shot at first. The man happily obliged and shot Jackson, who proceeded to shake it off like it was a bee sting. Jackson went on to win the duel and the bullet remained in Jackson’s body for 19 years. I admit that I pretty much plagiarized this from cracked.combut after being in this show, I have learned more about America’s Seventh President than I ever had in my high school History Class.

There’s this line about Andrew Jackson shooting someone’s ass off in a duel…

What’s the meanest thing the director has said to you? Did you deserve it?

Wait, have you met Katy? She would never! She’s one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. Her good-for-nothing, bully of a husband on the other hand…

Why should people spend money on this instead of something else like that new Jackass movie or a fancy dinner at Subway?

Why on earth did you audition for this show?

At first I didn’t plan on it.  Then I found out Tonya Porter was going to be stage managing and I thought “I wanna be a part of this in some way.”  So I started listening to the soundtrack more seriously.  It really reminds me of my early twenties and going to Warped Tour every year.

Tell us one thing you learned about Andrew Jackson from this show.

The historical Andrew Jackson was truly a badass.  I think the writers did a great job of both representing the actual Jackson as well as using his political career to represent our country in its adolescence.

“I’m pretty sure it’s our land anyway”
“oh.”

“Now don’t fuck it up.”

Why should people spend money on this instead of something else like that new Jackass movie or a fancy dinner at Subway?

It’s gonna be a really good time.  Andy Bennett as founding father Monroe.  Tonya Porter brings out her inner emo chick.  Maria and Nikki as cheerleaders who do what they are told. Laura’s epic cape.  Dan Marta finally wins something and Zach Stofer will be in tight tight jeans.

Bloody Bloody Christian and Dan!

OMG you guys, we are totes like just over a week away from the Minnesota premiere of BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON! That’s right, gird your loins, because on Halloween night, history gets all sexy-pants inside the Teatro Zuccone.

To keep you from screaming and fainting in anticipation, we’re going to be spending some serious blog time letting you get to know the cast and crew of the sexiest show about American History to ever hit Duluth. Next up, two sassy, nasty boys. Okay, that sounded creepy and weird. But we’re standing by it!

It’s Christian Issac and Dan Marta!

What a nice picture of Christian!

What a nice picture of Christian!

Why on earth did you audition for this show?

I joined this show to get a break from the biology labs and get back on stage!

Tell us one thing you learned about Andrew Jackson from this show.

I never thought of him as a real person.  Studying a president in class is a lot different than how you can see him through dramatic arts.  It leads to thought provoking questions as you wonder how complicated his life could have been.  It taught me Andrew Jackson had issues, just like the rest of us!

”We wanna fuck you.. and we also hate the tariff”

What’s the meanest thing the director has said to you? Did you deserve it?

She’s never told me anything mean because I’m such a nice guy.

Why should people spend money on this instead of something else like that new Jackass movie or a fancy dinner at Subway?

It’s a unique experience.. rock music and the year 1829 is a fantastic combination :)

What a ... nice ... picture of Dan.

What a … nice … picture of Dan.

Why on earth did you audition for this show?

I auditioned because I listened to two of the songs and got immediately hooked on the whole show. It’s ridiculous and ridiculously funny.

One thing I learned about AJ from this show is that he was actually a really horrible person.

“I’m federal Metamucil™ and I’m going to unclog this motherfucking system.”

What’s the meanest thing the director has said to you? Did you deserve it?

Katy once told me she would murder my whole family if I ever flatted a note I was singing again. Her comments can be pretty sharp sometimes.

Why should people spend money on this instead of something else like that new Jackass movie or a fancy dinner at Subway?

People should come and see this because Captain Phillips sucks and is nothing like the true story, while THIS show is almost EXACTLY how it happened. I would know. I Googled it.

Bloody Bloody Nikki Tatge

OMG you guys, we are totes like just ten days away from the Minnesota premiere of BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON!That’s right, gird your loins, because on Halloween night, history gets all sexy-pants inside the Teatro Zuccone.

To keep you from screaming and fainting in anticipation, we’re going to be spending some serious blog time letting you get to know the cast and crew of the sexiest show about American History to ever hit Duluth. First up is a lovely lady with a beautiful voice who is making her Renegade debut! It may be her first time on our stage, but it won’t be her last. Because we forced her to sign a contract without looking at it so she’ll be doing shows with us until she’s 90!

It’s Nikki Tatge!

Why on earth did you audition for this show?

I fell in love with the Renegade three years ago and thought, “Hey! I should stop being a creep and stalking this theatre and maybe audition for a show!”

*Whisper* Dream catchers.

She smiled at me once. I cried. It hurt so good.

Why should people spend money on this instead of something else like that new Jackass movie or a fancy dinner at Subway?

Nothing beats live theatre, people. The new Jackass movie can suck it and Subway… it’s not as fresh as you think. We’ll give you an experience that will rock your senses. All. Night. Long.

Auditions for All New People & Next To Normal

It’s that time again, everybody. Auditions for the first two shows of our 2014 season are just around the corner. We’re looking for some great local talent to fill some amazing roles and we hope to see all of you there. Here’s the details:

ALL NEW PEOPLE

by Zach Braff / Directed by Andy Bennett

January 23-25, 30 – Feb 1 & 6-8, 2014

In the dead of winter, at the luxury Long Beach Island apartment of his wealthy friend, Charlie has hit rock bottom on his 35th birthday. Heartbroken, he is about to hang himself. And that’s when a high-priced call girl, the town fireman, and an eccentric British real estate agent show up to spoil his good time. Soon, Charlie is forced to come to terms with the misery of being young and handsome in a world that wants him to actually contribute something of value.

This hilarious new play by Zach Braff – best known as the star of the smash-hit TV comedy Scrubs and as the writer, director and star of the award-winning film Garden State– gleefully skewers a generation of self-obsessed spoiled brats by taking the classic farce style of Neil Simon and giving it a modern, hysterical and emo-fueled edge. The result is an angst-ridden comedy with its tongue firmly planted in cheek.

Bloody Bloody Evan Kelly

OMG you guys, we are totes like just over two weeks away from the Minnesota premiere of BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON!That’s right, gird your loins, because on Halloween night, history gets all sexy-pants inside the Teatro Zuccone.

To keep you from screaming and fainting in anticipation, we’re going to be spending some serious blog time letting you get to know the cast and crew of the sexiest show about American History to ever hit Duluth. First up is a very familiar face who’s about to take a a time out from acting so he can properly raise and nurture offspring. What a dick move!

It’s Evan Kelly!

Henry_Clay-headshot

This isn’t a picture of Evan. It’s a picture of Henry Clay, one of the many characters Evan plays in the show. If you thought this was a picture of Evan, you should probably go see someone about how stupid you are.

Why on earth did you audition for this show?

Selfishly, it’s the last show I get to do before having a lil’ baby boy in December, and all of my favorite people were auditioning. I couldn’t pass it up. It’s also a really, really fun script. It’s not what you’d expect when seeing a historical musical. I mean, Parade is somewhat different.

Tell us one thing you learned about Andrew Jackson from this show.

I had no idea that Andrew Jackson had such a strong grasp on modern day language and slang. I believe that he might have written the Urban Dictionary, even though there’s no definitive evidence. BUT, we also don’t know that Shakespeare really wrote all them plays, or that Stephen King really wrote the Bible.

Tell us your favorite line from the show.

“That’s right…Underscore mother f*!#ers.”

What’s the meanest thing the director has said to you? Did you deserve it?

She told me I couldn’t take opening night off to go Trick or Treating for Halloween. BUT, she told me I could wear a costume, and that audience members should, too. She’s good at negotiating.

Why should people spend money on this instead of something else like that new Jackass movie or a fancy dinner at Subway?

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s new opus, “Escape Plan,” will be playing downstairs at the Zinema. If you’re planning on seeing that nine times, that’s the only excuse I’ll take.

Finally, most of the ensemble plays multiple roles in the show. One of Evan’s characters, Henry Clay, is described by the authors as being like Crispin Glover. So here’s some of Evan’s extensive character research.
