Stuff We Like – October 29, 2010

This one’s a bit bittersweet. The Stuff We Like this week is two Stuffs. Two people, really. Two people who are about to leave us for Los Angeles. Which means this is the first time we’ve been jealous of a city.

Jake Neuman and Erin Muhs have been working at Renegade for a while now. Basically, if you’ve seen pretty much anything we’ve done that you’ve enjoyed, chances are one or both of them had something to do with it. When they leave, Renegade is going to feel it. It’s going to hurt. We really are happy for them, and we wish them nothing but the best and we’re sure they’ll have a ton of success out there, but it’s going to hurt not having them around. We love these two, and we’re going to miss them.

They’re the Stuff We Like this week:

Jake Neuman Says So Long

Today we turn over our blog to one half of the pair that’s about to break Renegade’s collective hearts. Next week, Jake Neuman and Erin Muhs leave us and head to Los Angeles. While we have no doubt their talents and ambition will take them far out there, we can’t help but feel really, really bummed they’re leaving us. And then, to make matters worse, Jake wrote the following for the blog:

This is going to come off sappy. So as a punishment, I am going to submerge my hands in a tub of bleach until the sappy has bled itself from my fingers … Ok, creepy.

Anyhow. This is my first blog ever, ever. But it turns out that after Reefer Madness is over, I am going to be moving to California, so it’s probably time that I utilize the Renegade website and say a few words (since they don’t believe in computers in Cali).

It has been an absolutely amazing experience being involved at the Renegade. I have met a great group of HILARIOUS people who have taught me so much.

Seriously… I still owe $36,000 dollars for a college theatre education, and I didn’t learn nearly as much from it as I did from the Renegade.

It is the hardest thing I have ever done leaving such a welcoming community of people. (P.S. You bastards are making me sentimental. This is your fault.)

While the happy thoughts of the Renegade theater won’t provide the same warmth as a Sunday newspaper when my emaciated body is huddled and struggling to provide makeshift shelter on the unforgiving streets of LA, I will recall them, and use the last ounces of strength I have to accomplish a final smile as my weathered homeless body collapses into a defeated breathless heap in front of a soup kitchen.

That, or I will totally be famous, and I’ll mention the Renegade in my Oscar speech.

I hope to come back often, and play with the Improv team. That would be wicked sweet! Thanks again for everything,

Jake

Rene’Giving 2010

Our stomachs have finally completed digesting the dozens of dishes offered at the first annual Rene’Giving on Tuesday night, so it’s time to reflect on a great night with great people.

Here’s some things we’re thankful for:

  1. The unexpected culinary talents of the Renegade family.
  2. Gabe’s potluck contribution.
  3. Being covered with roses.
  4. Sudden, inexplicable appearances of Jesus.
  5. Sugar and butter.
  6. The foundations and people who supported us all year, especially ARAC, the DSACF and the wonderful, amazing A.H. Zeppa Family Foundation.
  7. The staff of the Zeitgeist Arts Building and Teatro Zuccone for giving us not only a spot to host our potluck, but a place to call home.
  8. The amazing, dedicated and talented members of the Renegade family who weren’t able to come and stuff their faces. You know who you are. We missed you.
  9. The following photos.

2010 Season Survey

Last night was our first annual Rene’Giving Potluck Dinner and Feedback Session Jamboree. We made need to work on the title. But it was a chance to let the people who helped make Renegade’s 2010 season our best one yet tell us what they liked about working with us – and what they didn’t.

We created a survey for that, and now we’d like to offer you a chance to give feedback too. If you’re reading this and you weren’t involved either on stage or back stage during our 2010 season, then you’re most likely a fan of what we do. And if that’s the case, we’d love to know what you like and what you don’t, too. So please, take a moment to fill out the survey, below. All answers are anonymous and confidential.

Thanks to everyone who made 2010 such a great season for Renegade. We can’t wait for 2011.

The Miraculous Interwebs

Will the wonders of the modern inter-connectivity never cease? Check out this email Renegade just received:

“Thanks to the wonder of google alerts, I received an email last night containing a rave review for a production of my musical Reefer Madness in Duluth, which happens to be the city in which I was born!  Break a leg to the cast and crew and I wish them all a fantastically successful run.  xox – Kevin Murphy”

Well Kevin, if the miraculous interwebs cause you to see this too, we just want to thank you for writing a fantastic musical. It’s a blast to produce!

More Reefer Madness Love

The opening weekend of REEFER MADNESS is in the books, and it was a blast! Thanks to the hundreds of folks who came out, laughed loud and clapped even louder. The cast and crew have worked so incredibly hard on this show, and your support means a lot. So thanks!

If you haven’t had a chance to see it yet, we really don’t know what you’re waiting for. But maybe we have something that will convince you to head over HERE and buy your tickets. Oeuvre Magazine posted their review of the show on Saturday. You can click THIS to read it on their site, or you can read the full text below:
